Bladder Cancer

The bladder is a bag like organ which is located in the lower abdomen below the kidneys and right behind the pelvic bone and stores urine. It is situated. Shape and size of bladder resembles with pear when empty. Normal capacity of bladder is about 400-600ml.

Bladder cancer is rare form of cancer which begins in the cells of the bladder. The bladder is a hollow muscular organ in lower abdomen that stores urine. Bladder cancer generally affects people who attains age of 50 year or more.

CAUSES BLADDER CANCER

Generally, Bladder cancer begins in the cells (urothelial cells) which line the inside bladder. In kidneys and the ureters also, Urothelial cells are found. It connects the kidneys to the bladder. Urothelial cancer may also develop in the kidneys and ureters. Cause that may increase the chance of development of bladder cancer, includes:

  • Cigarette smoke: Smoking cigarettes more than doubles risk of developing bladder cancer. Smoking cigars and pipes may cause bladder cancer.
  • Radiation exposure: Treatment of cancer using radiation therapy may increase chance of developing bladder cancer.
  • Chemotherapy: Sometimes Drugs used for chemotherapy may cause Bladder cancer.
  • Exposure to certain chemicals: There are chance of bladder cancer for people who   work at industry like dyes, rubber, leather, paint, some textiles and hairdressing manufacturing.
  • Frequent bladder infections: Frequent bladder infections, bladder stones or other infection in urinary area may increase chance of cell carcinoma.
